This thing is awesome and I really want one. I don't have any use for one, but seriously this thing is cool.

Whenever someone asks me why I think spending over $200,000 on a tractor can be a good deal I'll show this video.
Tractors are awesome. And it doesn't even have to be a beast like this one. The low gears, high power and amazing traction of a good tractor are awesome by themselves in a package. I used to cross swamps or climb ridiculously steep hills with our tractor just because I could. Even if a good road was just 10 meters away.

Except that this is better in pretty much every way. American farmers never decided that they needed their tractor cabs to turn around… -Michael

And of course if you require more, one option dominates all others.

I like the swivel cab.
![]() 01/20/2014 at 15:32 |

Yeah, that would be awesome for a lot of stuff.

Should be called Claas Badaass
![]() 01/20/2014 at 16:05 |

The fact that the cab turns around just makes it that much more awesome. It would make it a lot easier doing some things and is just plain cool.
![]() 01/20/2014 at 16:06 |

That would be fitting.

I think the average person has no idea how impressive modern farm equipment is.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 13:56 |

I found a huge size version of this picture. That is truly an impressive tractor.

Awesome bit of kit but unfortunately Claas is German, not British as it says in the intro on Truck Yeah. Can't seem to comment there and tell them though! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claas
We Brits do make our own tractors though, mainly the excellent JCB Fastrac which holds the 5th slowest lap of the TG track!
![]() 01/21/2014 at 14:20 |

The tires.......OH THE TIRES!!! When I was in college one of the many jobs I had was at a tire shop. Attending school in the middle of farm country meant there were A LOT of flats that needed fixing on farm equipment. The worst one ever...inner tire on a BIG BUD:
I was taught a new definition of hard work that day. Great experience but one that I don't think I would like to repeat anytime soon.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 14:29 |

Never knew that TG ran a tractor around the test track. I have seen a write-up or two on the internet when they've test driven tractors. I think there was a tractor and a lime spreader in separate articles.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 14:34 |
|
Oh yes.....
It was part of a 3-tractor test and the JCB was actually the slowest. Plenty of vids on You Tube.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 15:05 |

I assume that took more than 5 minutes to get those wheels off. Did you have some kind of little jib crane to get them off?
![]() 01/21/2014 at 16:25 |

I've been fascinated by this volvo concept.
Flyby wire controls means it can drop off it's own cab and then operate like a giant RC vehicle.

Nice thing, but Claas is german, not british.

I remember that episode, they decided to be farmers. Good lord that show has sooo many good moments its hard to recall them all.

Since pompous is generally associated with the Pope -does that mean the Pope has got a pickup truck too? Or is it just because it looks like the Popemobile?

Hmmmmm. wonder what they believe in?
![]() 01/21/2014 at 16:43 |

There are plenty of tractors that have the chair swivel around which is really all you need.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 16:49 |

??? I'm confused. Neither myself nor the video claimed that Claas is British. If you look close there is an EU license plate that appears to be German. They also show the tractor driving down the right side of the road in the video.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 16:49 |

They seem to believe in a lot of things. Truthfully I get too distracted by the tractor to listen to the voiceover guy.

Never mind, I got to the Truck Yeah post where it was shared. Suddenly a lot of the comments make more sense. Since the replies post on my original post and I hadn't seen the intro on Truck Yeah there was no context.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 16:55 |

I guarantee that that Claas costs way more than $200k

Whoops, sorry. Obviously I don't get the comment system. The reason was this post

That is pretty cool. Interesting to see how many of those features actually make it to real life.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 17:02 |

No problem. Its weird that it doesn't notify you that a post got shared. I was wondering why I was getting so many comments that were grey on this post, especially since it was posted yesterday. I got curious and did find the Truck Yeah post, but thanks for linking.

Thanks, that was from Mr. Collins intro. I just threw the video on Oppo with no real commentary about it and it got shared by him to Truck Yeah.

The good thing about that particular call was that it was just a flat and not a tire replacement so we just had to break the bead (which took about 20 - 30 minutes because some joker had damaged the mobile bead breaker) and replace the tube. The hard part was using the pry bars to get the outside bead over the rim. But yes, if we were to pull the rim and tire off, the work truck was equipped with a mobile crane/lift.
Also gained a lot of respect for bottle jacks that day.
Edit: now that I think about it...it was a dual threat call..the outside tire did need to be replace and it was the inside that needed the tube replacement. So we took off the outside tire while leaving the rim on and then broke the inside tire bead and replaced the tube and then replaced the inside tire......so many tires that year...so many...

Not to be "that guy" but are you sure you don't mean "pontiff"? Not that a Pope can't be pompous, mind you.

Watch that on my potato, so can't make out too much detail. I'm assuming that is a Bollywood gem from the way over the top action and the bunny hopping tractor?

Now I must find one of these in matte black. Though if there is such a thing the black hole of awesome would probably suck the whole internet in if anyone were to post that photo.

I work here but not on the Fastrac line.

It is a nice and very useful tractor that.

I saw a video of one of these, tho that was a 535 with wheels. It was dragging a huge cultivator and they showed the info display and it was using 90 liters of fuel/hour! I would not want to feed that!

wouldn't that be pontificate?

I see you also keep a dictionary at your desk. Good man.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 18:34 |

That's definitely true. Auto-steer that makes sure every row is exactly parallel with every other row and they are all spaced the same distance apart. GPS controlled on/off switches for individual rows on a planter for when planting at an angle. It all leads to increased yields, and it's all amazing.

the real question is would you rather have this or a Unimog?

Llama Lama misses Mamma.
![]() 01/21/2014 at 22:58 |

This. Way more useful than a Unimog. Granted not really useful as a commuter vehicle, but then a 'mog isn't really ideal for that either.

I just watched an entire video about a tractor.

But that one isn't forward control, and at least for me that's basically the coolest thing about that German pimp thing linked in the article.

2007 Fendt Trisix 540bhp 40mph
Armour the cab and put one or two Haubitz on it, and you have a reason why we should fear Germany again.

Oh, I see. It's like one of those Volvo dumpers (or American equivalent thereof - big yellow bendy six wheeled things).
Is it road legal?
